We arrived Kyiv yesterday around 4:30 pm in Ukraine (9:30 am EST).  Our flights from Charlotte to Munich and Munich to Kyiv were on time and uneventful thankfully.  No hassles but very little sleep.  It's 3 am now on Tuesday, Aug. 16 - still can't sleep.  Our adoption coordinator, Nastya, was waiting for us in the airport, as was a 22-yr old guy named Vilen (pronounced veelan) who we met in Rock Hill last year when he and a group of Ukrainian singers performed for our church and spent the night with us.  It was great to have friends who knew what they were doing and who speak the language.  We went out to dinner with Vilen and a couple from Roanoke, VA (Dave and Darci Funk) who are here to adopt as well.  We know the Funks from our Rock Hill friends and neighbors, Jeff and Misty Nyman, who blazed this hosting/adoption trail for all of us last year.  Dave and Darci are on a similar schedule as us, they just started a day sooner.  We have an 11 am meeting today with the SDA (state dept. of adoption?) to learn about Dasha's family background, place of birth etc...should be interesting since we have heard conflicting information about her past. Will write more soon.  Thanks for all the prayers.  BR

  1. Ok, the only guy to say he's not a blogger is the first to comment...odd!

Glad you made it safely and have friends there to help. That must be a great encouragement! Praying for you and your family.

  3. Just love to hear this is really happening. it's amazing when God knits peoples hearts together so completely as husband and wife, that your separate dreams become one and the same. This has been Jamie's heart for so long and to now see you Brett, leading the charge, is really awesome. We'll be following along with great anticipation!
